Monday morning with mini horses

Monday morning with mini horses

Who hates Mondays? Seems to be an ongoing complaint in the standard working world.  However, this Monday, and most Mondays are pretty wonderful for me.  I love being self employed, especially with businesses that I enjoy so much.

This Monday morning I get to spend time with the mini horses from Sedona’s Double H Equine Sanctuary.  This horse rescue has 2 new foals that are the size of most average dogs.  The little fly masks and halters are so adorable- like holding little baby booties.  When they get moving- you do have to be cautious as they can do some damage if they run right into you or bounce off you. Some adult miniature horses can weigh in at 350 lbs.

Monday mini horses- Jody L. Miller Equine PhotographyI sat in the corral and played fetch with the newest mini horse, Bullit.  His baby fur had not shed completely, even though temps in Sedona have reached the 90’s already.  He was very curious to see what me and my camera were all about.  His mom seemed to trust me sitting in the corral with them- so all was good.  Of course, once he got the toy his game was not to retrieve it and bring it back to me.  Bullit preferred to toss it through the fence to the donkeys that roam the property so that they could get a chance to play with the ball.  Bullit seemed quite amused by the entire process but just like most babies- animals or humans, after a little while it was time for a nap.

From his corral I moved right next door to visit another mini horse named Stardust. She’s a sweet and graceful little horse. Stardust trotted away from the safety of her mom so I could see how well she moved.  It was quite a difference from the little mini that I just played ball with.  What unique personalities they all have. mini horses- Jody L Miller Equine photography Stardust is such a feminine little filly and Bullit is a cantankerous little colt.  Both very enjoyable for me as a visitor to their little world.

One of the real treasures of this property is the forested area where some of the other horses get to spend their days.  They have access to the open pasture as well as access to the tranquil tree grove.  I sat in silence with some of these horses while they finished their breakfast.  It was so peaceful- I could just hear them munching on their hay and listen to the birds chirping in the trees.

I’m dedicated to having my Monday’s with mini horses or other horses or simply enjoying the surroundings of my “job”.

If you want to see more of the minis and horses at Double H Equine Sanctuary in Sedona check out my “fun-raising page”. Each purchase of artwork allows me to donate back to these charities.
