Horses spark joy- tidying up with horse photographer Jody L. Miller

Do Horses Spark Joy?

Do Horses Spark Joy?

They certainly spark plenty of joy for me when I’m out in the pasture photographing them and Horse art sparks plenty of joy in my home too!

If you’ve heard the term “sparks joy” then you’ll understand the direction of this blog post. “Marie Kondo is a tidying expert, bestselling author, star of Netflix’s hit show, Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, and founder of KonMari Media Inc.” Last year my sister-in-law Lisa, from Humble House Design loaned the book to me and I read through it and made a few small changes in our home.

After the end of my last long term relationship where I conceded to walk away from many material belongings accumulated over time, I have now adopted a more minimalist lifestyle. Since watching the Netflix show, Tidying up with Marie Kondo, we have gone through almost every closet and held on to the things that spark joy and then thanked and let go of those things that did not.  That meant cleaning out all my dresser drawers and clothing closet and getting rid of all the items I no longer wore or felt good about wearing.  That meant going through bathroom closets and drawers and organizing and consolidating. After all,  why do I really need 30 toothbrushes from my dentist when I have an electric toothbrush.  Why do I need canned beans or wheat flour in my pantry that no longer fits with my plant based eating lifestyle. Don’t worry, I donated a lot of items to charity and recycled the best I could.

It was fun to move through the house and organize our items. I was also fun to recognize that my horse art that hangs on the walls in our home and Christy’s art that also hangs on the walls in our home- really sparks joy! We did not remove one piece of artwork. We actually added to our wall art with a few new pieces.

Tidying up and changing the view in your room.

One of the rooms in our home serves as a home gym/guest room/art inventory storage. We built a shelving unit to put some of the smaller horse art Horses spark joy- tidying up with horse photographer Jody L. Millerboxes off the ground and we also used our wooden room divider to hide all the larger boxes behind that. It makes the room much more enjoyable while we are in their using the gym equipment.  We added shelves to the closets so that I can organize my matting material and note card packaging. It’s all easily accessible now and I can review my stock quickly. Each item has it’s own space.

Horses spark joy in the Kitchen

This clarity and tidying up has allowed us to develop a new photo product. Many of my horse art collectors have told me stories of having no more wall space to hang more photos. Now you don’t need wall space to enjoy Horses in your home. You can have horse art in your kitchen with these new Horse Cutting Boards.

The cutting boards come in two sizes and I’ve created 12 photo cutting board styles to choose from. These are really sparking joy in our kitchen!! Check out the gallery and choose your Horse that Sparks Joy!

The tidying up process has opened my eyes to surrounding myself with things I enjoy and thanking other items as I let them go. It’s time to let go of your old kitchen cutting boards and surround yourself with items you love!
