“Want go to the racetrack and take photos of the racehorses during their morning workout?” Yes, I do! The horse racing is opening back up this coming week in Prescott. AZ and since I have an established relationship with Arizona Downs, Mike Weiss the new General Manager authorized me to be out on the track to take some photos. When Mike accepted the position of General Manager of the track her was quoted saying, “I Truly Believe It Is Worth Saving’.
Arizona Downs Race Track 32-day season scheduled for Tuesdays and Wednesdays from June 1 to Sept. 15.
I had a wonderful time standing in the winner’s circle with my camera taking photographs of happy jockey’s riding and training the horses for the opening day and the 2021 racing season. I’m find the sound of hoof beats running past me so exhilarating. Of course, it helps that I had recently re-watched the movie, Secretariat. It was fun to hear all of the “Good Morning’s going around as well!” It was a small but cheerful group of equestrians loving being out in the morning air and getting ready for the crowd turnout that is expected, the deliveries were being made in anticipation, the grounds were being prepared, the track was being tended to and of course the racehorses were out in the cooler air getting their muscles warmed up and their bodies dialed in to win! I won’t say that I leapt out of bead at 6 a.m. but I can tell you that anytime I am going to photograph horses I am eager to get going with my day and I do wake up happy! I had an opportunity to even meet Mike Weiss before he did a national radio show promoting the Arizona Downs Horse racing and to introduce myself as the local Horse Photographer that has her photos in their Off Track Betting Room. That was fun! I love being a horse photographer and I love capturing these amazing and graceful creatures running with the wind in their hair and the sunshine bouncing off of their coats. If you are coming out for the opening day – that will be this Tuesday, June 1st at 2:30 P.M. where you can get some food and enjoy the efforts of horses and humans alike, be out in the beautiful weather and maybe even take home a new Horse canvas photo for your living space. It’s a good place to get your happy face on and the people there have always been very welcoming to the patrons. I hope you come out and enjoy what Prescott has to offer.
Check out my SHOTS of the workout this morning!!
