Last month the annual Hold Your Horses Exhibit and Sale opened at The Phippen Western Museum in Prescott, Arizona. This marks my 6th year being invited to participate in this wonderful show. Opening night was July 5th and the show continues through September 29th. This year I decided to vary my images with two Horse images and two cowboy images. My “Fade to White” was the talk of the night among viewers. Many gathered around my display and discussed how surreal this image was and not like any typical horse photo they had seen.
Fade to White was created from an image I took of a beautiful and powerful Andalusian Stallion from Tismeer Spanish Horses. Altivo Vinyet is the first approved ‘true’ Cremello PRE breeding stallion in the US. While working on this photo in Photoshop, I decided to remove some fencing and a house behind him and as I was doing that I took it a few steps further and decided to remove all the background and convert the image to black and white. It’s available at The Phippen Museum online by clicking here or contact me directly for purchase.
Matching up in the style of white backgrounds is the second image named Patron. Patron is another Andalusian Horse I photographed in Surprise, Arizona. I decided on both of these horse photos because I thought they would look great together hanging on a wall over a couch.
My Cowboy images also complement each other and would look great in the same room with some western design. Rock Springs Morning Light features a foggy morning with heavy dust and cowboys riding through a pasture while beams of sunlight streamed down upon them. Canteen has been converted to a sepia tone, keeping the colors of this horse photo subtle and warm.
Images are also available on note cards in The Phippen Museum gift shop. I’ve enjoyed participating in the Hold Your Horses Show each year and look forward to being invited again.
“This inspirational presentation of outstanding artwork features fine artists who are recognized specifically for their outstanding ‘art of the horse’.
The close relationship shared between horses and humans has dramatically changed both species over time.”
