The Charity Show is a long standing tradition at Arts Prescott Gallery
Every year since it’s inception, during the month of December, Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery on Whiskey Row has been hosting a Charity Art Show. During this month long show, all members of our local artist cooperative donate at least one piece of artwork to sell. We also reach out to the local artist community for donations from fellow artists. This Charity show is one of the many ways that Arts Prescott Gallery gives back to the local community that has supported us for over 23 years. 100% of all proceeds are given directly to the Charity.
Charity Show recipients
Each year at the gallery our membership decides which local organization to donate to. Not only do we get to donate a sizeable dollar amount to that charity from the proceeds but we also get to bring more awareness to the community about that particular organization. Over the many years we have raised money to help support Child Haven Crisis, United Animal Friends, Yarnell Fire Victims, Meals on Wheels, Horses with Heart, Hungry Kids Foundation, Coalition for Compassion and Justice and many many more.
Skyview School chosen Charity for 2016
This year we selected Skyview School in Prescott Arizona.
“Skyview School’s mission is to enrich the lives of students and to ensure that future generations are well prepared to live their lives with meaning, dignity, and the ability to work together for a better world. Respect and responsibility toward self, others, and the natural environment are our guiding principles. We believe that children possess a blend of multiple intelligences and, drawing on “the best practices in education”, we celebrate each child’s uniqueness, tailoring education to develop the fullest potential of each learner. Encouraging a sense of competence and self-motivation, classroom life is interwoven with community life through practical experiences.”
The Charity Show at Arts Prescott Gallery is a fundraiser for the art and dance programs at Skyview School. As artists, we understand the importance of keeping any art form in front of our youngsters and giving them all a chance to be creative in many ways. The Charity Show will also be offering art from the children of Skyview School.
Skyview School aligns itself with Daniel Goleman’s (1997) definition of the intra- and interpersonal intelligences. Typical school systems often focus on a narrow range of intelligence that involves primarily verbal/linguistic and logical/mathematical skills. Skills in these areas are essential for surviving and thriving in the world, however, Skyview goes on to implement many more areas of intelligence like those listed below. A blend of all of these creates a wonderful learning community.
-Linguistic (syntax, phonology, semantics, pragmatics)
– Musical (pitch, rhythm, timbre)
– Logical-Mathematical (number, categorization, relations)
– Spatial (mental visualization, mental transformation of images)
– Bodily-Kinesthetic (control of one’s own body, control of handling objects)
– Interpersonal (awareness of others’ feelings, emotions, goals, motivations)
– Intrapersonal (awareness of one’s own feelings, emotions, goals, motivations)
– Naturalist (recognition and classification of objects in the environment)
The 2016 Charity Show begins November 25th and runs through December 21st. The opening reception is Friday November 25th from 5-8pm at Arts Prescott Gallery located at 134 S. Montezuma Prescott, AZ. The Charity Show also coincides with Arts Prescott’s annual Holiday Party and 4th Friday Art Walk.
