Seniors downsizing their living space but not their horse art collection.

Recently a collector of my horse artwork was forced to face the reality of having to downsize.  Downsizing is an inevitable part of living for most Seniors that require assisted living.  Seniors must choose to donate excess clothing, sell off over sized furniture and weed out items that will not longer fit within their now smaller walls.  It’s an emotional time for most seniors that are reluctant to accept the aging process and relinquish some of their cherished mementos.Quarter Horse in Snow-Jody Miller Horse Photo

Save the art work.

My client was having medical issues and facing multiple surgeries.  The ailments alone are enough to stress many people and then she had the added stress of downsizing.  Over the years she had purchased several of my fine art horse photographs on canvas and they had been hanging through out her beautifully appointed home.  She had grown up with horses and had that deep emotional connection to horses that I speak of so often.  She was struggling with what artwork to sell or give away and vowed she would find a wall in her new apartment to keep all my images.  Among the images she owns was Strength which she was constantly reflecting on to pull her through all those surgeries.  She also owns Silent Snow.  I recall when she purchased Scar Face she told me how much she related to this image of an injured horse.

Hiring a Professional Senior Transition Specialist.

In Prescott, Arizona there is a large population of retired folks.  Prescott has been listed as one of the best places to retire on several Internet sites.  There’s a growing number of Senior living communities and a growing number of companies to assist you when you transition into that smaller living space.  These services cover coordinating all aspects of a move with a completely hands-on service. From floor planning to picture hanging and making the beds.  My client did hire such a service. Her personal coordinator knew how important her horse art collection was and made her best efforts to get all the horse photos in place to provide her the comfort she needed upon arrival.  It was an emotional transition but the horse photos hung on her walls made it just a little bit easier to deal with!  Click to listen to her touching voice mail message below.
