How do Horses Help You Feel Empowered?

How do Horses Help You Feel Empowered?

Something happens when you look at a photograph of a horse moving with such power and gracefulness, time and time again this is what I hear from people looking at my photography. “I feel empowered” they say. “I don’t know why I am crying as I look at your photograph but it speaks to me in a way that I was not expecting and I feel the power of it.” “Your photograph of strength helped me get through some rough times in my life and so I want it in the middle of my home so I can be reminded of my own inner power”. These are just some of the sentences and sentiments that people have told me about my photography and photographs moving them to a place within themselves that feels like a powerful point of ability to make a decision or to take a personal stand and move forward through a personal time or issue. I can appreciate that a stranger will walk up to me and say such personal things now, however at it was occurring more and more I was not sure what to do in the immediate moment – so I stood with them and told them the story of the photograph as I took it.

Collectors share how Horses help them feel empowered

First though I was genuinely interested to hear them speak about how they connected to my horse photograph and to my equine photography. Each person stood with me telling me of something that spoke to them from the canvas about how they would make it through their own moment in their life that might seem insurmountable or daunting and each one spoke of how as they looked at the horse photo they felt the power of the horse reaching them in such a personal way. Not only was I moved but I was thrilled to know that my own feelings of connection with the horses’ powerful movement and way of being was coming through on the canvas to them as a viewer. How wonderful for me as a horse photographer to be able to translate this feeling through the lens and then out through the canvas to others for them to connect in the privacy of their home or office to the powerful movement of the horse in the photo. I could feel that same power as I edited that photograph in my home and got it ready for release people all over who really love and relate to horse photography and the power of a horse.
