Round Two – Sunrise Workshop Number Two!

The Horse Photograph - Jody Miller, Prescott Horse PhotographerThe alarm goes off the next morning at O dark thirty. I reach to shut it off and muscles I never knew I had ache and bid me a salty “good morning!” I crawl out of bed, stand and make my way to the coffee and a hot shower to reconstitute my resolve. Once I am underway with some breakfast and new ration of hope. I meet everyone in the parking lot. My second cup of coffee balanced with my bagel and photo gear bag on my shoulder, the possibility of more amazing photos dancing in my head made conversation come easily for me.

I did notice that it was a bit chillier than I thought it might be and that a nice gray fog was embracing everything in my immediate vicinity. As we drove out to our now known location my mind played ping-pong with me, will the fog lift or will it stay. I drank my coffee and ate my bagel and refused to think about anything but the amazingly beautiful horse photos that I would have the opportunity to shoot today.

We all made the trek over the dunes and out toward the water again, only this time we were not met with the wind. We were met with FOG! HA! I smirked inside as I repeated my newly found mantra in the face of yet another weather glitch, “I am a professional horse photographer, I am a professional horse photographer” and then a bit more slowly as I tried to wrap my mind around how to frame the shot, “I a m a  proooofeeesssional hooorse photoooograaaphhhhher” – you laugh – but it helped. Well, at least for a little bit anyway.

The Horse Photograph - Jody Miller, Prescott Horse PhotographerI should mention that I was in a pretty good mood in spite of what mother nature was adding to my backdrop. By the time we reached our actual destination for the shoot that morning the fog had moved on and I was really looking forward to getting into it.  I don’t normally shoot with a model but she was in her first costume by now and so I felt pretty good about what would come together for me this morning. Ashley Morgan Rhodes rode her Andalusian stallion Thor along the beach in a stunning display of how the day was going shape up. It felt like I was shooting for the cover of a romance novel! I couldn’t help but feel like some of these photographs would really appeal to the Lord Of The Rings fans, or the fantasy and Renaissance crowd! The weather was great for most of that day and I ended up with a couple of genuinely amazing horse photographs I could not wait to display in my gallery back home in Prescott, Az.
