35 days until Christmas in Prescott

Christmas in Prescott- Horse photographer Jody L. MillerThere’s only 35 days until Christmas in Prescott.   I’m not sharing this to then pitch you on all the great Horse art I have available for your Horse lover for Christmas (although I truly do).  I am telling you this because this is such a wonderful time to live in Prescott, Arizona and to be in Arts Prescott Gallery right on Whiskey Row!  I do love the fall season but Christmas time in Prescott can be so magical.

Christmas time in Prescott is nostalgic.

The State of Arizona, refers to Prescott as being Arizona’s Christmas City.  In 1989, Governor Rose Mofford declared Prescott “Arizona’s Christmas City.”  Prescott is very proud of that title and I wanted to share all the reason’s I love Christmas in Prescott.

Arts Prescott Gallery is located in the heart of Whiskey Row.  The Prescott downtown square is where most of the Christmas excitement takes place.  For the past 59 years, the city has decorated the Yavapai County Courthouse and surrounding plaza.  To kick off the season of Christmas there is always the Christmas Parade or several parades.

Here is the lineup of activities for Christmas in Prescott.

November 24th 5-8pm: Opening reception of Art’s Prescott Gallery annual Fundraiser Art Show benefiting Bethany’s Gait Ranch – saving Horses and local Veterans

November 25th Prescott’s 22nd Annual Holiday Light Parade.  The streets of downtown Prescott are lined with people as we watch lighted floats drive around the Courthouse plaza.

December 2nd- The Daytime Christmas Parade sponsored by The Prescott Chamber of Commerce. This year’s theme is Cowboy Christmas.  Depending on the weather, this could bring a huge crowd out to enjoy the floats decorated for Christmas.

December 2nd – The Courthouse Plaza packs them in for the Annual Courthouse Lighting Ceremony.  This is such a sweet event and allows me to feel like I’m in an old time black and white movie, like It’s a Wonderful Life.  Young kids from Prescott area schools gather on the Courthouse steps and sing Christmas Carols.  When they are done, the switch is flipped and all the lights come on!

December 3rd- Join me at the Prescott Gateway Mall for a special Holiday Art Show from 11-4

December 8th- Acker Night brings Prescott downtown area alive with Music! Acker night at Arts Prescott Gallery is a blast!  We pack the gallery with music and art lovers.  This year we will have Rick Jordan singing again.  The streets are closed off and all the stores, hotels, restaurants and other businesses around the square participate with musicians in every location!  Funds raised on Acker Night provide scholarships for music lessons, instruments and local youth performing arts programs.

On nights when there are no Prescott events, you can cuddle up in front of the fireplace and tune in to some of these top Christmas movies. Or better yet, the Arts Prescott Gallery is open until 6pm every day, so come down and enjoy Christmas in Prescott and get some incredible handmade gifts by local artists.  The gallery is staffed by all the members, so it’s also a great opportunity to meet your favorite artist.
