Local First Arizona draws in Artists

Local First Arizona - Equine Photographer Jody MillerLocal First Arizona is a nonprofit organization that celebrates independent, locally owned businesses.

I joined Local First Arizona late 2017 following in the footsteps of Arts Prescott Cooperative Gallery that joined the organization in 2016.

Here’s their mission statement taken directly from their website: “Local First Arizona Foundation is a statewide organization focused on community and economic development in order to build self-sufficient, healthy, and prosperous communities. The Foundation is the 501c3 nonprofit sister organization to Local First Arizona focusing on healthy local foods, the Fuerza Local Accelerator Program, and rural economic development. Together, we are creating a movement that has proven results across a wide variety of measurables including youth retention, job creation and economic growth.”

Founder Kimber Lanning.

When I first heard Kimber Lanning speak at a public event in Prescott- I was inspired by her ideas, views and strong determination and belief in Buying Local!  This article on buying locally really sums it all up for me. Kimber shared some unique methods of networking and collaborating with other local businesses.

If you search the web for horse photography, search results may vary from the Fine Art America website to Pinterest website to AllPosters website.  Occasionally, towards the top of the list you will find great horse photographers like Tony Stromberg, Carol Walker and myself.  But the real power behind the web search results is mostly big box companies serving themselves.

Local First Arizona helps the “small box” companies!

Local First Arizona is all about small box companies being represented and supported by their local community.  Local First Arizona recommends always looking for locally sourced items to purchase first.

If you need food- check with your local Farmers Market- Prescott, Arizona has a wonderful Farmers Market to purchase fruits, vegetables and even meats that are all locally sourced. Although I don’t eat much beef, I do enjoy burgers from the beef of locally owned, Broken Horn D Ranch.

If you need Art or Home Decor, there are a plethora of talented local Artists in every town around the state.

If you need services – like roofing, painter, plumbing you can check the directory on Local First Arizona website to find a local company you can support.local first arizona- equine photography Jody Miller

If you are looking for accommodations- check the directory for a small and locally owned boutique hotel before booking with one of the big name hotels.

Whatever you are looking for, I’m sure you can find it on Local First Arizona- then help spread the word and keep it LOCAL!!
